Henry Holland Talks Us Through His AW16 Fashion Show

Caroline Leaper

Saturday night at London Fashion Week is always a party thanks to Henry Holland and his posse of front row favourites. For AW16 he’s giving us all the glam rock inspo we could ask for, but why listen to what we’ve got to say about it when the man himself can talk us all through the collection…

Henry’s Muse Of The Season Was The Ultimate Party Girl…
‘It was about a 1920s flapper meeting a 1970s groupie,’ Henry told us backstage after the show. ‘I think those two groups of women had a lot of similar character traits - the flappers were loosening their clothes and shortening their dresses just so that they could go out and dance for the night and the Seventies girl wanted to go out and be promiscuous and have sexual freedom, too. I wanted to bring those two party decades together.’

Alexa Chung, Pixie Geldof, Daisy Lowe And Co. Cheered Him On From The Front Row
‘All of them should be wearing all of the collection - and paying for it for a change!’ Henry jokes. ‘Sometimes I get their opinions on designs – I texted Pixie a picture of the shoes a couple of days ago because I knew she’d throw up with excitement when she saw them and she was like ‘give me a pair!’ Some of the pieces really do shout out to some of my friends and I think sometimes the themes and the party girl muses from the past that we research really do reflect their lives and attitudes. Hopefully they’re all House Of Holland girls in their hearts.’

A Trip To The Tate Modern Formed Henry’s Starting Point…
‘It all started when I went to the Delaunay exhibition at the Tate earlier this year. Those Twenties shapes were so bold and graphic, but felt so modern and fresh. They also really reflected the House Of Holland aesthetic - we use polka dots all the time.

The Accessories Were Everything…

‘We haven’t really done hats before and I worked with Noel Stewart on this collection. They just felt right with the look - those Seventies girls did like a hat. They were coming out of the 50s and 60s when wearing a hat was still very much about daywear but then they turned them into this fashion party must-have.’

There’s A New Denim Collaboration To Know About…
‘Yes we are launching a capsule collection with Lee Jeans that’ll go into stores in August,’ confirms Henry. ‘It’s so great, we worked with their team in Asia to create 25 pieces in total, but I just wanted to break the news and preview a couple of looks in the show here tonight.’

Excited, much?! You heard it here first…
