The V&A Museum has joined forces with high street store Coast to create a capsule collection of dresses inspired by its recent Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950 exhibition.

The six-piece range, which drops into Coast stores nationwide and the website today, channels the bygone glamour of the past centry with each item paying tribute to the silhouette and style of a particular era.

The Coast team were given access to the museum's archives for inspiration for the dresses – each given a retro girl's name. The line, which is modelled by Suki Waterhouse in the collection's campaign imagery, features classic floor-length styles (the Cecily, Patience and Lottie) and dramatic ruffled ballgowns (the Phoebe), as well as shorter numbers (the Daphne and Blanche). Prices start at £550.

Kim Elliott, head of design at Coast, said: 'The V&A Collection seemed like the perfect collaboration for both Coast and the V&A. Inspiration for this fabulous collection of dresses came from vintage dresses, beautiful and iconic fashion photography images and delving into the drawers of fashion history to recreate and bring to life this collection of contemporary Ballgowns.'

Click on over to the Coast website now to start shopping the collection. No occasionwear wardrobe is complete without it.
