We're already counting down the days until Baz Luhrmann's big screen adaptation of The Great Gatsby hits cinema screens thanks to its star-studded cast and dazzling Jazz Age setting, and now we have yet another reason to get excited about the release: Miuccia Prada has designed the costumes.
Yes, fashion fans, the genius behind the Prada and Miu Miu labels has collaborated with the film's costume designer, Catherine Martin (who is also director Luhrmann's wife), and delved into her label's archives to choose 40 dresses to be adapted into '20s-style flapper girl frocks for the movie, according to Fashionista.
Prada said: 'I usually try not to literally reference periods in my work, because that’s not the way I think. But when I worked on the costumes, I realised how many pieces could become very 1920s with a little intervention and another point of view.'

And it's not the first time that Prada has worked her magic on a Baz Luhrmann film. The Milan-based designer created a suit for Leonardo DiCaprio – who will play the lead role in The Great Gatsby – to wear during the wedding scene in 1996's Shakespeare adaptation, Romeo + Juliet.
More recently, the creative duo teamed up to produce a series of short films for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York's summer exhibition, which celebrated the work of Prada and the late Italian designer Elsa Schiaparelli.
Prada, who designed Gatsby star Carey Mulligan's dress for her April wedding to musician Marcus Mumford, joins the likes of jewellers Tiffany and Brooks Brothers, who supplied the men's costumes, as fashion brands which have worked on the film.
Originally slated to hit cinema screens this Christmas, The Great Gatsby is now expected to open in July 2013.
We can hardly contain our excitement!
