For weeks we'd heard rumours that a fashion interlude would take place during the London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony, and last night's spectacular did not disappoint with the some of the most famous faces in British fashion taking to the catwalk in the best that UK designers have to offer.

Superstar models Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Karen Elson and Stella Tennant joined more recent stars Jourdan Dunn, Georgia May Jagger and the two Lilys (Donaldson and Cole), plus male star David Gandy, to enthral the crowds at the Olympic Stadium.

All the models arrived on stage hidden inside lorries with their pictures on the outside that were driven into the stadium to a soundtrack of David Bowie's Fashion. Once in place, the images dropped to reveal the models inside who then stepped onto a catwalk in the stadium and strutted into the middle.

All the looks had a gold theme in tribute to Team GB's success at the games and were a brilliant celebration of the best of British design. Kate dazzled in a gold sequined gown created by Alexander McQueen's Sarah Burton, with fellow supe Naomi also decked out in McQueen looking like a warrior princess in an embellished dress with a glittering tulle train.

As for the others, Lily Cole wore a brocade detailed dress with sheer panels by Erdem, Lily Donaldson went regal in a sequined off-the-shoulder strumpet gown by Vivienne Westwood, flame-haired Karen Elson modelled a dress with a sexy thigh-high split by Burberry and sex bomb Georgia May Jagger looked cute in a flare-skirted number by Victoria Beckham.

Jourdan Dunn, meanwhile, wore a white and gold column dress by Jonathan Saunders accessorised with a show-stopping Stephen Jones headdress and male model heart-throb David Gandy on her arm in a lurex Paul Smith suit, and Stella Tennant shimmered in a twinkling chain-mail ensemble by Christopher Kane.

And while we did love it (and it was undoubtedly the most glamorous segment of the ceremony), we couldn't help feeling that it was a little blink-and-you-miss-it and over far too quickly.

Ah well, despite the short duration it still gets a gold star from us.
