Admiral Lord Nelson is wearing a new hat this morning, after 20 of the capital's most iconic statues have been given a makeover by famous hatters including Philip Treacy, Lock & Co and Stephen Jones.

The project is part of The Hatwalk Initiative set up by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, to promote a series of pop-up performances across the city for the London 2012 Olympics.
Stephen Jones said: 'I am thrilled to be able to showcase British millinery during the year of the Olympics in London.'
'Britain has long been credited as being the centre of the modern millinery world and these hats are the work of our most celebrated and inspired creators.'

Lord Nelson's patriotic new hat is one of 20 wacky creations to be found on our iconic statues this week during the Cultural Olympiad.
Francis, the Duke of Bedford statue in Russell Sqaure, can be seen wearing a giant orange fedora and Franklin D Roosevelt on Bond Street wears a John Boyd creation.
The baseball cap on the Shakespeare statue in Leicester Square, however, has already disappeared - after it was nicked yesterday.
The brightly-coloured turban on Beau Brummell in Jermyn Street was also removed by well-meaning Westminster city council cleaners.
