Manolo Blahnik reveals Kate Moss’ wedding shoes drama

If there’s one day when everything has to be perfect, it’s your wedding day. And Kate Moss is no different to brides up and down the country when it comes to stressing over the smallest detail.

Shoe designer Manolo Blahnik was responsible for Kate’s footwear on her big day – a customised pair of his multi-strap Godichefac heels – and has revealed how his team worked through the night to get them just right for the supermodel's wedding to Jamie Hince.

In an interview with WWD he said: ‘We did them five times to get them the way she wanted. My workers are the best people. I wouldn’t be here without them. The shoes arrived the day before and there were too many jewels on the heel because of the long train. So we had women working up until midnight to change it.’

Wow. That’s a lot of work to tweak a few jewels. And despite the frantic last-minute rush to get the shoes just right, the famous Spanish cobbler revealed that the actual day went without a hitch.

He said: ‘I’ve known Kate since she was a little girl. The wedding was divine. Kate has such a presence. You just have to feel it.’

The humble shoe design legend also used the interview to give his verdict on the other Kate’s wedding this year.

He said of the royal nuptials: ‘I love pomp and circumstance, and I’m very respectful of tradition, [so the wedding was nice to see]. Kate and William are great for England. They are so popular, and that will help the country during troubled times. They will bring in a lot of money.’

However, the 68-year-old Tenerife-born designer did reveal that the royal wedding did make him feel a little sad.

He added: ‘It’s nice to see them [William and Kate] grow up, but it’s kind of depressing because you realise so much time has passed. I remember William running around at Kensington Palace with his mother.’
