Samantha Cameron glows in green at the Scottish Fashion Awards
By Fiona Raisbeck on Thursday 16 June 2011
As guest of honour at last night’s Scottish Fashion Awards, we presumed that Samantha Cameron would wear an outfit created by a homegrown designer. And she did just that, looking resplendent in a neon green lace dress by Glasgow–born Christopher Kane.
The Prime Minister’s wife - who is an ambassador for the British Fashion Council - attended the glitzy ceremony at Glasgow’s Science Centre to present the award for Designer of the Year, which was scooped by colour and print maestro Jonathan Saunders (pictued below with Cameron and fellow Designer of the Year nominee, Holly Fulton).
Kane’s fluoro lace pleated dresses, from his spring/summer 2011 collection, have been one of the most coveted pieces this season. Sam Cam’s bold choice of colour in a dress by an edgy young designer only cements her standing as a public figure who’s passionate about British fashion, and who more than pulls off high-fashion looks.
As well as Saunders, other big winners on the night included Henrietta Ludgate, who won Young Designer of the Year, actress Freya Mavor, who took the Fashion Icon of the Year title, Henry Holland, whose House of Holland label was crowned International Brand of the Year for using Scottish fabric, and Annie Lennox’s daughter Tali, who scooped the Model of the Year prize.
