The Papered Parlour launch dressmaking workshops
By Jess Wood on Wednesday 5 May 2010
Call it the Mad Men effect, but suddenly we've come over all domestic goddess - baking, sewing, quilting...we feel a Summer of Crafts coming on. So hurrah for fabulous new London 'craft venue' The Papered Parlour.
Set up by two cool young artists, Claire and Louise, the cosy space in South London's Clapham is decked out as a parlour, complete with vintage Singer sewing machines (which you get to use on the dressmaking courses)
One day workshops include 'Make Me a Domestic Sewing Goddess', 'Silversmithing: Make a Ring' and for the artistically inclinded, 'Photography: Get Your Camera Off Auto!'
If you draw the line at sewing on a button, try Screenprinting and create your own tee.
Courses start at £57.50 and include materials. The best thing about the day? The tea and cake breaks. Now all we need is a swishy full skirt from Louis Vuitton's autumn/winter collection and we'll be getting our Betty Draper on..
