John Galliano appointed new chairperson for Fashion Fringe Covent Garden
By Hayley Spencer on Monday 15 March 2010
Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden, the event to launch exciting new design talent in London, has appointed fashion icon John Galliano as its new chairperson and will be holding a suitably swish launch party in April to celebrate.
The fashion mogul, who already produces an impressive 17 collections a year, has taken over from Donatella Versace, and will find time in his busy schedule to front the search for the UK's next big design talent for the next two years.
An excited Galliano said he is looking for 'a rebel genius' who 'isn't afraid to try something new'.
Colin McDowell, founder of the organisation, backed up Galliano saying Fashion Fringe hopes to discover someone with the same 'searching, radical spirit' as the Dior designer.
The organisation aims to nurture talent as well as teaching the business kudos to match, and has already launched 13 successful designers, including the likes of Basso & Brooke.
The search for the next big thing starts today, and will end on 30 April. Watch this space for the next Galliano!
