Fashion royalty puts on a final show at Alexander McQueen's funeral

Alexander McQueen was found dead on the eve of his mother's funeral

Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Stella McCartney all paid tribute to designer Alexander McQueen at his funeral yesterday.

If you were expecting to see swollen eyes and heaps of snotty tissues, you'd have been disappointed. It seemed that the most fitting tribute to the designer who'd built up a fashion empire from nothing, was to put on a full face of makeup and dress for the occasion.

The mourners had gone all out in the fashion stakes - and they did McQueen proud. They were there, they said, to celebrate the life of the man who made 'all he touched beautiful'.

Kate Moss and Alexander McQueen - Marie Claire Kate Moss, and fellow designer Stella McCartney wore simple black outfits - Naomi in a McQueen jacket and Kate in a little black dress with a fur shrug. Everyone wore sky-high heels that would rival anything seen on one of the designer's catwalks.

However, the day really belonged to McQueen's family. The fashion designer's father Ronald was joined by his five children at the ceremony, which comes two weeks after the 40-year-old's death.

Tragically, the McQueens are also mourning the loss of their mother who died at the beginning of the month and whose death was a contributing factor to Alexander McQueen's state of mind. Several of the family proudly wore the McQueen tartan, a feature of the designer's memorable Highland Rape catwalk show in 2006.

McQueen's coffin, laden with pink, white and red roses spelling out 'Lee', was carried out by four pallbearers and loaded into a waiting hearse which drove off followed by two black stretch Jaguars carrying his family.

Mourners spilled out of the church openly sobbing and hugging each other.

Among the other friends gathered to pay their respects at Saint Paul's Church in Knightsbridge there were Sam Taylor-Wood and boyfriend Aaron Johnson, as well as heiress Daphne Guinness, who wore a dramatic cape and a veil from the designer's autumn 2002 catwalk.
