Topshop's woodland nymphs creep up on London Fashion Week
By Carla Bevan on Saturday 20 February 2010
The 80s revival is over, you heard it here first. How come we're so certain? Well, after two seasons championing the trend in all its stonewashed-denim, day-glo splashed glory, Topshop Unique today abandoned it with nary a backward glance. The high street giant's new obsession? Fantastic Mr Fox.

Well, not just Mr Fox actually, but all his woodland friends and the great outdoors in general. With a runway made from fallen leaves and the models sporting badger and hedgehog headdresses or antlers, plus cute furry eyebrows (editor's note: we've checked with the beauty team and they promise this look won't catch on), the inspiration for the collection couldn't have been signposted more clearly and we absolutely loved it.

From the shearling-lined booties and Girl Guide badge-embossed pencil skirts to the battered parkas, duffle coats and over-the-knee cable-knit socks, this was winter dressing at its cosy, British best.
For when the camp fire's roaring and coats can be shrugged off, soft chiffon dresses with lace and hand-crafted crochet detailing made for whimsical eveningwear, perfect for indulging your inner woodland nymph, while stripy cotton pyjama trousers and shirts offered a new take on this season's current penchant for underwear as outerwear.
The term 'looking foxy' will never carry quite the same connotations ever again.
