Victoria Beckham proves herself to the fashion pack with fourth collection
By Rachel Holmes on Monday 15 February 2010
A vote of resounding approval sounded through the ranks of fashion editors and stylists gathered to take a look at Victoria Beckham's fourth dress collection at a tiny salon-style show in New York this weekend.
'Mummy's doing a big test' was the way she explained it to her sons - showing that nobody is more aware than Mrs B herself that carving out a name as a serious designer in the fashion world is a difficult task. Despite Victoria's nervousness in exam conditions, the collection got top marks from the people gathered to see the show, with The Guardian reporting that, 'the designer proved that the phenomenal success her own label has enjoyed so far is neither fluke nor whim, and that she is in the fashion business for the long game.'

The collection itself was the fourth in her incredibly sucessful line and insiders estimate that the Victoria Beckham dress, denim and sunglasses business will be worth £4.7m in sales this year.
This season Victoria said she'd been influenced by '1940s femme fatale and a Dick Tracy cartoon colour palette' and you could see this in the dark sea greens and crimsons in the dresses. There was still her signature structure to the silhouette, but shoulders and necks were now encased in asymmetric lines. Attention to detail was seen in the wonderful draping on skirts and on cowl-necks, and the gold zips making their way up the backs of the dresses.
One trench style dress came revealing acres of flesh and in a wet-look gold fabric with a sort of 'boudoir meets mean cop' feel. Of it, Beckham remarked, 'You have to be careful you're wearing the right underwear.'
Despite the accomplished feel of the collection Victoria remained humble saying, 'I'm still learning and I still feel I need to prove myself; all my life I've had to prove myself. Each season, I have to better myself. I really want to grow as a designer.' Her dream, she said, would be to open her own store, 'perhaps in five years'.

I have rarely seen such dreadful dresses! Emperor's new clothes spring to mind when i read that the fashionistas are saying how wonderful they are! They look like something from john lewis fabric section swathed on a body!
