Scarlett Johansson designs handbag for Haiti

Scarlett Johansson Haiti Handbag for Mango

If there is one celebrity-turned-designer that really should be on your style radar, then it's Scarlett Johansson's first foray into bag design for Mango.

But it's not for fashion points that we're recommending this A-list collaboration. Ms Johansson has created a handbag to help the Haiti earthquake appeal, with all profits going directly to Oxfam.

Speaking of her charitable endeavour, she commented: 'I'm thrilled to be collaborating with Mango to promote conscious consumerism and to benefit Oxfam's Haiti Earthquake Response Fund. By purchasing this bag, you are helping to provide life saving assistance like clean water to the people of Haiti.'

The design features the message 'Helping the people of Haiti', plus the actress's signature beside a print depicting an ancient map of the country.

The bag will be sold worldwide from March, and will sell for £16.90. We can't think of any good reason not to snap one up.

Er, why doesn't the mega-rich Scarlett just put her hand in her very deep pockets and give some money instead?

I think she did, and by using her name it gets the crisis in Haiti more air time and press coverage so that people don't forget the disaster and the years that it will take to rebuild the country - and hopefully make it a better one.
