New York comes to London
By Lucy Halfhead on Tuesday 29 September 2009
Desperate for a slice of the Big Apple but can't afford a transatlantic flight? The good news is you'll only have to travel to the Newburgh Quarter in Carnaby Street to be treated to a genuine New York experience.
Launching on 3 October for a month, the Wish You Were Here event sees 12 of the Lower East Side's hottest retailers set up pop up shops. Heading over from across the pond are Wendy Mink Jewellery, By Robert James, In God We Trust, Reed Space, Zarin Fabric, Kaight, Earnest Sewn, Shut Skateboards, Hairy Mary's Vintage, Adrienne's, and Still Life.
Highlights include free coffee and blueberry muffins as you browse the rails, live DJs and a Big Apple food market including popcorn, apple cider, cotton candy and salt beef. Yum.
And keep your eye peeled for a yellow taxi on the streets of London - just quote ‘Newburgh' to the driver and he will drive you there for free.
