Selfridges stock tights for men
By Lucy Halfhead on Thursday 24 September 2009
Forget briefcases and Blackberries: this season's hottest accessory for the man about town is - apparently - a nice thick pair of tights, designed exclusively for guysized legs.
Demand among male shoppers for pantyhose has been soaring over the past five years. And now Selfridges in London has responded by stocking a range of tights for men.
Designed by lingerie brand Unconditional, the tights are a super-snug 120 denier thickness. They come in black, beige and charcoal and will cost £70.
Just as many women wear Spanx to smooth over trouble spots, Mantyhose are usually worn by men under suits to keep the legs warm and to give the hips and thighs a nice smooth line.
David Walker-Smith, Selfridges' director of menswear and beauty, said: 'This winter the city's most stylish men will have a secret weapon hidden in their trousers. The "mantyhose" are extremely versatile and we expect men to be wearing them not only as a way to as a way to give legs an extra boost of warmth on the chilliest nights, but as a true style statement.'

It's just wrong, wrong, wrong!

It's about time !
Start the movement slowly under pant wear then slowly evolve the fashion so that men can show their legs festooned in tights.

Let's go back 70 years - trousers on females - just plain wrong?
Leggings and thick tights are actually incredibly comfortable. They are warm and made of great material. If I want to wear them, then I will. Or of course, if females say that they want their men to be real men , then I could say I want my women to be real women - skirts and dresses, subservient and making my tea whilst I go to the pub.
That is sexist - it works both ways.

I get so frustrated with people who just spout, "wrong, wrong, wrong", especially when it comes from women. How would you feel if you went back in time about 60 years and heard men going about saying, "it's just wrong, wrong, wrong" when referring to women wearing trousers. You know that is exactly what was happening, don't you? Since when is it OK to take such a close-minded stance, when your own mothers or grandmothers were the opponents of just such close-mindedness.
Men wearing this legwear are doing nothing immoral or illegal. Tights (sheer or otherwise) are being worn by men for leg support, added warmth-without-bulk, and base-layer under outdoor clothing in cold conditions. There's no one 'prancing about' or anything of the sort.
I'd like to see more balanced treatment by the media in the future. Unfortunately, there is still a ways to go to eradicate the lingering misplaced perception that this has anything to do with cross-dressing and the sort.
Comment by Steve Newman on September 25 22:12
It's not misplaced perception it is cross-dressing, it just doesn't look right on a man which is why women in particular think it is 'wrong', not being fooled by the it's sooooo comfortable angle.

Come on people wake up for crying out loud, we're in the freekin' 21st century...what's wrong with men wanting the benefits of a tight undergarment?
Open your minds folks and shun away from your own insecurities...it's nothing more than legwear and we're not expecting men to start wearing bras or stilettos in the process here. Brushing up on history doesn't hurt either, 18th century silk legwear was a common thing for men, way before women started wearing hosiery...gender transcending trends come and go after all so get over it!

missb and cosmos are just plain 2 faced feministic idiots. Wrong wrong wrong? what is WRONG with you women?? would you like us to throw you back into the kitchen? stop you from working?? No? therefor STOP DENYING MEN SOMETHING MEN HAD FIRST!

Oh no, not the argument men wore tights 200 years ago. They were only invented 50 years ago, this is not the same thing at all.
I'm not insecure, nor female, but almost without exception men who rave about wearing tights do so for sensual reasons, disguised sometimes under the supposed benefits of wearing, and always claiming women introduced them to this delight. They also buy secretly and wear them furtively, because underneath they know it is something odd to do.
If tights are so good, why have women been abandonning them for well over a decade?
Comment by Cosmo on February 17 13:42
Men can wear tights for various reason plus health like sitting too long that can cause serious problems with DVT which is deadly blood clots so people need to understand all about it. Im male and wear tights all time that help my health, it still allow for men to wear tights like keep warm, health reason,etc.. also it help High street shops to sell more that would help to recover from recession -- it not gay or xdress as it still unisex not for women only. One thing is look at men at hospital by wearing support white stocking (sometime with tights) for operation to protect the blood flow that why it recommend to wear tights for mens as well so it time to accept as unisex :)

Tights are an excellent fashion accessory for men. It's not just the fact that they are comfortable (which they are), but they accentuate a finely tuned leg and look very appealing. Women, don't be jealous! If your man has nice legs, be happy that he wears a pair of tights to show them off. Tights under shorts for men is the next hot fashion trend (just like in the 1800s) and I welcome it.

Silver - if you think tights under shorts for men is the next big fashion trend, I think you'll have a very, very long wait! It just ain't happening.
