PICS: Chanel Couture A/W 2009
By Ruth Doherty on Wednesday 8 July 2009
There’s one thing Chanel wants you to do this winter: team your skirt suits with lace tights and Madonna circa 1980-inspired lace fingerless gloves.
After Karl Lagerfeld’s light-hearted all-white couture show in January, things were slightly more sombre for autumn/winter – but the craftsmanship no less clever.
A slew of signature skirt suits flew down the runway, but it was the details that really set them apart, ranging from strong-shouldered and beaded (think Michael Jackson), to maroon with leopard-print lapels.
Cropped sleeves and luxe detailing are key, with a stand-out suit being the cream, embellished woolly wonder.
Things turned decidedly 20s-inspired for the evening, with fringed fabric dominating the occasionwear.
But whatever skirt suit you opt for this winter, the message is: you absolutely must not forget your lace tights.
So go on, girls, Get into the Groove.
