Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue took to the hot seats for the first ever round of live X Factor auditions yesterday, and kept things short and sweet in the style stakes.

Both in thigh-skimming minidresses, the judges battled it out for the highest hemline, with Cheryl running away with the title in her teeny-tiny shift.

The Girls Aloud starlet went uber-chic in the embellished design, with her highlighted locks loose and luscious as ever.

As for Ms Minogue, and she chose a strapless draped number, with graphic print, and accessorised with a chunky gold statement necklace.

The glamorous pair joined fellow judges Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh for the first live auditions in London yesterday. The format for the hit series has changed this season, so that all auditions will take place before a live studio audience.

A spokesperson for the ITV show called the new set-up, 'bigger and better than ever.'

I think Cheryl Cole looks more of the same. Danni, in comparison, looks fresh, youthful and vibrant. Why are we all brainwashed into thinking that long hair and designer dresses automatically means beauty and success?

Danni looks by far the best, as she isn't sticking to the 'big hair = glam' formula. Loving the short look, far sexier and more summery

Couldn't agree more with final comment more - Cheryl looks a bit cliched, whilst Danni appears to have re-invented herself - good for her, I think she looks great.

"running away with the title"? Cheryl's vest is tacky, and makes her look like a little girl. By comparison, Dannii looks elegant, comfortable and professional. No contest - Dannii 'wins' hands down.

Live auditions !!!! thats a joke
We stood for 4 hours in the pouring rain and a further 2 hours inside a freezing stadium in Glasgow before the auditions started.There was a queue of people suffering from hypothermia outside the first aid room. Simon, Louie etc weren't even there, it was some random employee who didn't even lift their head to look at me when I started singing, How can they tell if you have the X factor if they don't even look at you? For the record, no I am not a wierd freak( perhaps if I was I would have got through regardless of talent). I can sing well and I have been told that I look like Lady GaGa.
I was so annoyed that I penned a poem on my journey home (Too long to add here) , If I had Louie or Cheryl's email , I would send it to them!!

I was at the live Manchester auditions and both of them looked great in minis, but I would say Cheryl's colourful, bow belted number had the edge on Danii's one shouldered draped dress.
