Cannes Film Festival: the hottest trends
By Lucy Hutchings on Wednesday 27 May 2009
The Cannes Film Festival may be over for another year, but you can guarantee that the trends gracing the week's glitziest red carpets won't be disappearing any time soon.
First up, and there was no shortage of colour in the Côte d'Azur.
From Rachel Weisz, resplendent in not one, but two green gowns across the course of one day, Monica Bellucci and Sophie Marceau in matching red-hot numbers, Penelope Cruz in sweeping violet Marchesa and Kylie looking fabulous in fuschia, little black dresses took a back seat, as the stars embraced brights.
TEN BEST CANNES DRESSES OF 2009
When monochrome hues did hit the red carpet, then detailing was key. Diane Kruger rounded off a seriously chic week, in an ethereal Marchesa gown at the Inglourious Basterds premiere, with floral motifs and a plunging scoop back.
On a similar note, in a stunning nude Versace Atelier gown, Angelina Jolie ensured the only split talk referred to the pin-flashing thigh-high cut in her cascading gown.
Meanwhile, certain stars clearly saw an opportunity for their princess moment. Eva Longoria, Abbie Cornish and Elizabeth Banks all stepped out in voluminous statement gowns, where ruffles, sweeping trains and cascading tiers were in dramatic abundance.
