Eva Longoria and Abbie Cornish get glam at Cannes

It was the battle of the Cannes belles this weekend, with both Abbie Cornish and Eva Longoria arriving at the Bright Star premiere in scene-stealing voluminous gowns.

As the film's star, it was Cornish's moment to shine, and she didn't disappoint, in a cascading Toni Maticevski asymmetric lilac grown, and Jimmy Choo satin sandals.
With her hair swept into an elegant up-do, the Australian actress was the picture of Hollywood glamour.
But she faced fierce competition in the petite form of Eva Longoria.
The Desperate Housewife wowed in a dramatic dove grey Atelier Versace spring '09 gown, with sweeping train of ruffles and swirling soft print, which more than matched the drama of Cornish's statement frock.
She may be a tiny actress in a seriously big dress, but Longoria got the look just right, keeping her accessories to a minimum, and wearing her hair scraped back into a chic bun.
Adding some seriously high-octane glamour to the French Film Festival, both actresses looked picture-perfect in their gorgeous gowns.

It is a pity that Eva went head to head with Abbie this year. Abbie's dress successfully combines whimsy with glamor making a beautiful frame for a beautiful woman. Eva's dress is more pedestrian, only showing originality in the fabric for a disappointing display. Abbie Cornish is clearly triumphant in her gown as well as her performance.
