Selfridges sells £2k bikini

By Lucy Hutchings  on Wednesday 15 April 2009

Pistol Panties - News - Marie Claire

Credit crunch, what credit crunch? That's clearly the attitude over at Selfridges' swimwear department, where they're celebrating a 33% rise in sales with the launch of a £2,000 bling-kini, that you can't even swim in!

The Anita, created by Pistol Panties, features 5,000 Swarovski crystals, ensuring that each square centimetre is worth a whopping £100.

In a maillot silhouette, it's a bikini/swimsuit hybrid, featuring two pieces joined by a beaded gold rope. And though it may look like swimwear, this is a piece strictly for posing - swimming is definitely off limits in the Anita!

The costly one-piece will hit stores in London, Manchester and Birmingham; each store already has waiting lists in place for buyers eager to pick up the limited-edition design.

Helen Attwood, Selfridges' swimwear buyer, commented, 'Swimwear is summer's ultimate style statement. With all the right ingredients and adequate holding-in-pushing-up power a bikini can become a woman's best friend.

'Whether destined for St Tropez or South End, I hope Anita will provide our customers with the ultimate poser appeal this summer' she added.

St Tropez maybe, but we're not sure if the Anita is quite up to a day out in South End? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Is this what women are supposed to fall for??? A bikini you can't swim in??? Who are the idiots who fall for this sale??? I bet it's women with no brains of their own, who have rich husbands/blokes - and who don't know a thing about hard work or money's worth - they are probably married to bankers like Sir Fred.. mmm makes sense!!!

Complete nonsense! Plus the bikini is plain UGLY!
Comment by Elsa on April 15 16:19

i think the bikini's nice. But to be honest, i prefer to swim when im at the beach/pool and you can do that in bikinis that are just as nice. Plus bikinis like that will give you either a streaky tan or streaky sunburn that will show when you wear a two piece bikini. So i think im just going to buy a nice one i can swim in and will get an even tan.

this swimsuit is stunning! so glamorous and totally unique. I want one!

It's Gorgeous! But you have to have a body to wear it (and the cash too obviously!)

I've got several Pistol Panties Bikinis and they are by far the sexiest and most well made. The £20 ones are in the bin after one summer where as I'm still wearing my PP ones from 3 years ago.

Er, it's Southend not South End. How out of touch with reality you really are!

That bikini is totally FABULOUS!!!! you girls need to lighten up- this is just what I need to lift me out of all the doom and gloom. If I could afford it I'd be on that waiting list.

Fantastic, stunning, a must for every woman

To those who expressed a negative comment, Ouch! There's a clear lack of art apreciation or imagination! With a tan, a toned hour-glass figure, a pool resort with an azure blue sea this will be worth every penny when you're drawing the admired gaze of those who would wish to be you, and the husband / boyfriend who may have bought it will love you all the more for wearing it, although he'll thrill to your touch when you're not wearing it. Lets face it, life without love is pointless.
