Peacocks win recession fashion battle

Shopping bags, women shopping, news, Marie Claire

Peacocks, the value fashion store, has proved it's not all doom on the high street with strong sales figures.

The frugal fashion house saw an eight per cent growth in sales over the last 16 weeks.

Sales have been boosted further with prices up to 50 per cent less than their high street rivals.

'The nation is value hungry right now which is reflective of Peacocks' offer,' says Tim Bettley, Peacocks’ managing director.

'We always have something new in store, and with 30 to 50 new lines landing every week, customers can rely on Peacocks for the latest seasonal must-haves as well as wardrobe staples.'

Clever designer copy-cat styles have increased the stores appeal to cash-strapped fashionistas.

Over 100,000 Chanel-inspired quilted bags have sold since the start of the year, with 10,000 in the last two weeks!

Shoes have seen 50 per cent growth, with ankle cuffs, sky-high heels and gladiator sandals – an homage to Jimmy Choo, Gucci and Alexander McQueen – flying off the shelves.

Flirty floral dresses, a key spring item, have also helped secure Peacocks' place at the heart of cheap 'n' chic fashion.

A Luella-inspired tea dress for £14 has sold over 50,000 and still counting!
