Oscars: Fashion round-up

Jennifer Aniston at the Oscars 2009

Last night's Oscars ceremony was all about Kate Winslet, who finally won the Best Actress gong, following five failed nominations.

As for her style, and the Brit actress delivered pure old school Hollywood glamour, from the elegant, if safe, asymmetric Yves Saint Laurent gown, to the flawless curled up-do.

The one-shouldered look continued to be an A-list red carpet favourite, with fellow nominee Marisa Tomei wowing in a grey satin Versace pleated gown.

The key trend to emerge from the evening though was neutral shades, with white, ivory, and the softest silvers turning the red carpet into a veritable white-wash.

These tones provided many of the evening's most stunning gowns, including Anne Hathaway's shimmering Armani Privé Spring 2009 column dress, and Jennifer Aniston, who was a vision in Valentino. The actress stepped out with beau John Mayer, for their first ever red carpet appearance as a couple.

Alhough Penelope Cruz was erring on the side of bridal with her frothy vintage Balmain Haute Couture gown, she still managed to pull off the ethereal style, and joining the trend was Nicole Kidman, wearing a white, figure-hugging L'Wren Scott Spring 2009 gown.

Another ivory style hit came courtesy of Sarah Jessica Parker, who proved her on-screen persona, Carrie Bradshaw, was still alive and kicking with her Christian Dior Haute Couture strapless gown.

With many stars opting for monochrome shades, Natalie Portman brought a welcome flash of colour to the red carpet, and was resplendent in baby pink Rodarte.

Hollywood's golden couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, made another red carpet appearance together, but sadly Miss Jolie-Pitt failed to really pack a punch in the style stakes. Whilst the actress looked every inch a star with a coiffeured half up-do and eye-catching Lorraine Schwartz emerald drop earrings, her sombre black Elie Saab strapless column gown did little to tansalise the style tastebuds.

As you said in your first lines the night was about Kate Winslet so why is Jennifer's picture there and not Kate's ?

Don't we hear and see enough about Jennifer let's have more of the winner. Well done Kate!
