Gwyneth Paltrow in leather hotpants

Gwyneth Paltrow was obviously in a brave fashion mood yesterday, stepping out for her latest premiere in a pair of leather shorts.

A far cry from the star's red carpet style of old – think that ultra-girly candy pink Ralph Lauren Oscar gown - she arrived at the Two Lovers premiere last night in high-waisted leather shorts, a gold lamé top, fitted black blazer and dove grey lace-up ankle boots.

Clearly either unaware, or unbothered by the style bashing Keira Knightley received yesterday for her attempt at fashion-forward style on the red carpet, perhaps Paltrow was trying to steal the spotlight from her dishevelled co-star Joaquin Phoenix?

Phoenix, who has been conspicuously absent from the film's promotional trail, infamously announced he was quitting the film industry last year, to start a career as a rapper.

And though he made a rare return to the Hollywood scene last night, all eyes were firmly on Paltrow (and those statement shorts!).

I like all the pieces individually - just not sure they add up to an outfit. But i'm sure she couldn't care less what I think - and quite rightly so!

As usual Gwyneth shows bravery and forward thinking in her fashion choices. I wish more of Hollywood would take fashion risks.
