Stars go ladylike for charity gala
By Lucy Hutchings on Wednesday 11 February 2009
This season, there has been a marked shift towards a more ladylike look - think sharp tailoring, below-the-knee hemlines, and demure cuts - and nowhere was this more apparent than at Saks Fifth Avenue's Unforgettable Evening last night in Beverly Hills.

Attended by a star-studded line-up, that included Gwyneth Paltrow, Beyonce, and Courteney Cox, the charity event saw its stylish attendees opt for chic, yet formal looks.
For Gwyneth, this meant ditching the vertiginous heels and micro minis for one of this season's key pieces, a long-length fitted jacket, which she teamed with an elegant satin shift dress.
Adding a contemporary touch to her smart ensemble, she accessorised with a chain of gold beads, and a slick of raspberry lipstick.
As for the typically über-glam Beyoncé, and the singer toned down with a demure little black dress, round-toe courts and multiple black bead necklaces.
The evening wasn't completely devoid of a spot of Beyoncé bling though, and the superstar changed into a thigh-skimming gold beaded minidress to perform on stage. Guess that's her dose of Sasha Fierce taken care of for another evening!
Combining formality with some serious glamour, Courteney was radiant in a shimmering silver below-the-knee gown, which was the perfect compliment to her unbelievably glossy tumbling locks.
