BAFTAs: Fashion round-up
When it came to the fashion, it was a BAFTA blackout for 2009.
Kate Winslet, Angelina Jolie, Penelope Cruz, Gemma Arterton, Kylie and Emma Watson, to name just a few, were all clad in noir, but it was far from a sea of classic little black dresses.
Instead, black was used to varying effect, with everything from full-length to strapless, mini and sculptural gowns on show.
Racking up yet another trophy for her bulging cabinet, Winslet, who won Best Actress for her role in The Reader, wowed in a Zac Posen halterneck gown, which accentuated her hourglass curves with its hugging bodice and fishtail skirt.
In typical British mode, she accessorised not only with Prada shoes, but with a large umbrella to keep off the persistent drizzle.
Adding a touch of Hollywood glitz, golden couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie upped the glamour factor, with her in a strapless Armani Prive sheath, and him dashing in a tux.
Making a welcome change from the blouson gowns she's favoured of late, Jolie dazzled in the alluring fitted dress with neon yellow stripe.
Not only winning Best Supporting Actress, Penelope Cruz picked up nods of approval for her elegant black velvet Azzedine Alaia halter gown. Chic, yes, but the dress was instantly reminiscent of her SAG Awards' style. More originality next time please, Ms Cruz.
The evening wasn't completely devoid of colour though. The ever-youthful Sharon Stone looked radiant in her fire engine red Galliano number, while Amy Adams flew the flag for British fashion in a cobalt sculpted RM by Roland Mouret gown and long gold chains.
Our latest style crush, Freida Pinto, didn't fail to disappoint, looking every inch the A-lister in a cascading Oscar de la Renta sugar pink tiered dress. The BAFTA belle of the ball? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below.

The worst apparition of the night was Goldie Hawn. Get you hair cut Goldie. What makes older women think that by sporting the same hairstyle that they have had for 40+years and wearing so it covers most of their face makes them look younger? The dress didnt suit her, she was not toned enough to get away with it and it was too tight. Over 60 can still stunning and elegant. Look at Helen Mirren
