Primark's sales up 18%
By Carla Bevan on Thursday 15 January 2009
The British high street might be in disarray, but one store NOT feeling the credit crunch is, yes, you guessed it, Primark.
The bargain-busting, discount destination has today posted a sales rise of 18% in the 16 weeks up to 3 January.
The good news comes in the face of accusations by the BBC and Guardian this week that British suppliers to the chain have been employing illegal workers and paying them substantially less than the minimum wage.
Primark, who has confirmed it is investigating the claims, said its record sales figures were thanks to 'very good' like-for-like sales growth and increased selling space.

I think its disgusting Primark employs staff on poor salaries and no doubt in poor conditions. Why buy clothes that fall apart after one -two washes, I say invest!

Primark doesn't employ the staff on low wages, their supplier does. it's the supplier who is at fault. On the other hand, you could argue that Primark must realise that the effect of selling such cheap clothing encourages the suppliers to cut costs in the factory so they can meet Primark's prices!
