John Galliano honoured

By Lucy Hutchings  on Tuesday 6 January 2009

John Galliano

John Galliano has been appointed a chevalier of the Legion of Honour, in the French New Year's Honours list.

The British-born designer, who is the creative director of both Christian Dior and of his eponymous label, joins a prestigious line-up of style industry icons, including Sonia Rykiel, Azzedine Alaia, and the late Yves Saint Laurent, who have all received similar accolades form the French government.

Giorgio Armani was one of the most recent fashion faces to be awarded, becoming an officeir of the French Legion of Honour back in July 2007. The American designer received his award during Paris Couture Week, from French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
