Donna Karan ditches fur

Donna Karan has pledged to stop using fur in her collections, following two years of persistent protesting from PeTA.

The New York designer has been a target for the animal rights group, which over the course of the last two years has disupted her catwalk shows, protested at public events she has attended, and even plastered New York City with anti-Karan advertisements.

Last week, the organisation set up a website that dubbed the designer the 'bunny butcher', and sent her a video detailing the violence of the fur industry.

Now she has finally got the message, and has vowed to stop using fur in her designs.

The fashion house released the following statement, 'There is no fur in any of our lines for Fall 2009, and we currently have no plans to use fur.'

In response, PeTA senior vice president Dan Mathews, commented, 'Because Donna Karan has dropped fur, PeTA will drop plans to target her upcoming runway shows. This is a win for the real fashion victims, animals, who are routinely skinned alive for their pelts.'

With Karan out of the picture, Mathews added that PeTA would now 'focus on Armani and other targets', but added that they would 'be keeping an eye on Donna's 2010 collection'.
