Women keep favourite clothes for 12 years
Women keep their favourite wardrobe pieces for 12 years – longer than the average marriage, so says new research conducted by the Clothes Show Live.
We all have a threadbare jumper we can't bare to throw away, a pair of boots that's seen the inside of the cobblers one too many times, or a classic LBD that's never gone out of fashion, and apparently we're loathed to get rid of these sentimental items, but can be more prepared to end a marriage that's seen better days.
The new findings highlight the fundamental attachment we often feel towards some wardrobe staples that remind of us a happy time in our life; a faded T-shirt from a favourite holiday, the teen jeans we can no longer get into or simply an 80s-style party frock we pray will come back into fashion.
The research also revealed the average woman's wardrobe was worth over £1,000, but of those pieces, just 30% are worn on a regular basis.
As a nation, we're certainly not the last of the big spenders – the fashion show's research reveals the average cost of a wardrobe item is under £50.
Clothes Show Live presenter, Louise Roe, explains: 'Maybe we love clothes more than we love men - sometimes that is the case.'
She added: 'Other women do keep clothes for sentimental reasons. It doesn't have to be that beautiful ball gown. It could be an old T-shirt that you wore on a great holiday.'
However the message is: 'If it's threadbare, falling apart at the seams, then it should be got rid of.' You've been told…
