Winter slope fashion alert: all-in-ones are back

The ski season is upon us, leading snow bunnies around the world to make the familiar cry, 'What am I going to wear?'

Last weekend I visited Solden, Austria, to take a look at the upcoming Saloman ski collection for autumn 2008. It's so interesting to see what us Brits buy when it comes to shopping for the slopes.

On the catwalks for spring '09, the jumpsuit saw a triumphant return, spotted in all shapes, colours and sizes. But this trend is not only limited to the runway, but has also crossed over to ski apparel for this season and next.

Now, don't start to panic when you think of a ski all-in-one; the picture that sprang to my mind first was of a James Bond movie with Sean Connery in a lycra one-piece.

But if you think about the last time that Kate Moss was photographed on the slopes, then you'll remeber that she was sporting an all-in-one. So if it's good enough for Kate, then it's good enough for me.

You will be pleased to know that the Salomon one-piece is a stylish suit, with a drop waist and a slouchy feel.

Not only did I get to see it in the flesh, but I got to see how well it performed. I was lucky enough to be guided round the slopes by Elyse Saugstad, the Freeride World Tour Champion 2008. The great thing about the suit is that not only does it look super-stylish, but if you're an extreme skier like Elyse, or one that falls over a lot, like me, then there is no chance of ending up with snow down your trousers, so wiping out can become a very stylish affair!

As Brits on the slopes, we are so conservative with our clothes, myself included, but after this trip I am most definitely a convert to a one-piece on the slopes, and getting some colour back in my ski wardrobe!
