X Factor: fashion round-up
With fewer contestants, we now get more performances on our weekly X Factor, and more singing means more outfits for our lucky wannabes. Unfortunately, even with two chances at gaining a style hit this week, the remaining singing stars scored even more misses.
First up, and we have to say we were thrilled to see Ruth go, mainly because we're running out of things to say about her awful ballgowns. Yes, it was back again for another week, in all its ragged-hem glory, however, things got even worse when we finally got our wish and she ditched the look.
For her first song, gone was the gown, and in its place a studded corset teamed with super-tight black trousers. A look we can only imagine was channeling Cher circa 1989. Dare we say it, but we suddenly missed that wretched ballgown.

After Ruth, the corset theme just kept on running, with Alexandra squeezed into one, too. In a longer length, hers thankfully had a far more flattering cut, and teamed with latex leggings she looked almost Beyoncé-esque.
Onto outfit number two, and the X Factor stylists are obviously grooming an heir to Ruth's vast wardrobe, as Alexandra took to the stage in a dove grey gown, that may not have quite reached Ruth's levels in frothiness, but showed real potential.
For yet another week, Diana proved a welcome style relief. Her sweet dresses may not be necessarily fashion forward, but they look chic, and have become a stylish, signature look for the starlet.
Our favourite of the night had to be her soft grey Philip Lim shift, although her LBD with bejewelled shoulders also suited her petite frame.
So that's the contestants judged for another week, but what about the judges themselves? After a number of weeks relegated in the style stakes, Cheryl Cole finally scored a fashion hit over Dannii.
In an asymmetric little white dress by Tibi spring/summer 09, and with her hair loosely pulled into a ponytail, the Girls Aloud star was back on form.
As for Dannii, her maroon strapless dress wasn't exactly offensive, but it wasn't her finest fashion moment either.
For once, all eyes weren't on the judges this week though, and it was Britney Spears' appearance - her first on UK TV in five years - that really got people talking.
The performance itself may have not been much to write home about, but you can't deny that the pop princess's transformation is amazing. She's toned, her hair is back to its pre-shaven glory, and her Madonna-inspired get-up shows off that slimmed-down physique to perfection.
