High heels for babies spark outrage

By Lucy Hutchings  on Thursday 27 November 2008

Heelarious shoes, Marie Claire news

A new collection of high-heel shoes is set to launch in the UK, but there's a bit of a difference - the styles are designed for the under-ones.

Heelarious is an American brand that designs high heels for babies up to the age of six months, which it describes as 'fun, hilarity and glamour.'

Completely soft, the moldable shoes come in a range of ridiculously trashy shades including pink satin, leopard and zebra prints and black patent.

Tacky, yes, but for Daily Mail readers, the shoes have caused outrage, with one mother telling the paper, 'They're making them look like little women - and loose little women at that.'

Michele Elliot, founder of children's charity Kidscape, echoed these views saying,  'High heels are meant to be sexy, and are definitely for adults not children... It is absolutely disgusting to market them for babies.'

The shoes may be baby's first fashion crime, but these reactionary opinions seem a little extreme for a range clearly marketed as a bit of a joke, as the label's name suggests.

That doesn't detract though from the fact that these are possibly the ugliest shoes we have ever seen! Wait until she's big enough for some Manolos, or at least the high street version, and avoid giving your little one a bad style start in life.
