High street increases sales to tempt back shoppers
The Bank of England has declared that Britain's love affair with shopping is over, and that it in no longer considered a 'leisure activity.'
Whether this sweeping statement is true for all is yet to be seen, but retailers are clearly stepping up a gear in their bid to tempt shoppers, as sales continue to spring up all over the high street.
First up, step into your local M&S today and you can take advantage of 20% off all clothing, homewares, beauty and wine across the store. The offer is also available online - click here to shop now.
Another marketing ploy is the discount voucher, with one from Gap currently circulating, which offers 'family and friends' a massive 30% off, while Threshers is offering 40% off with its version.
Experts are now predicting that the bargains will keep coming in the run up to Christmas.
As for the death of shopping, Dr Tim Denison of research analyst Synovate's told The Independent, 'For some people, shopping is not the enjoyable social pastime it was hitherto. It has become more of a frustration, where their eyes and hearts alight upon goods that have now become unaffordable to them.'
Figures from the Post Office confirm that people are spending less, cutting their outgoings by an average of £160 a month.
