The princess of pop teamed up with the reigning queen last night, as Rihanna hosted an evening of charity and fashion, attended by Madonna.

Celebrating the Gucci Tattoo Heart Collection to benefit UNICEF, the singers, who have both been avid supporters of the charity collaboration, joined Gucci creative director Frida Giannini for a star-studded evening at New York's Plaza Hotel.

Making her first post-divorce red carpet appearance, the Material Girl looked better than ever, exhibiting a look that was pure old-school Hollywood glamour, with glossy blonde curls and a scarlet pout.

Her style, however, divided opinions, with some arguing that her green-feathered dress was more akin to Astroturf, while others commended the star for her brave fashion choice.

Rihanna, meanwhile, wowed in a floor-length lilac gown, co-ordinating her make-up perfectly with deep violet eyes and pale pink lips.

They were joined by the hottest stars of US TV, including Gossip Girl's Blake Lively and Penn Badgley, Ugly Betty's Eric Mabius and Becki Newton, and Entourage's Adrian Grenier.

awful dress!
Madonna inspires reaction whereever she goes, from admiration to annoyance.
she has not only survived and continued to succeed in an industry that worships youth but she continues to defy the norm and that is always a good thing.

but again, the dress, NO!
however it does get attention so maybe a success after all!

Madonna looked awful in the green dress. Far too young a style for a woman of her age. I wish she'd give up showing her legs all the time, they're really not that great!!! Her skin looks good because of all the surgery she's had, which is so obvious....face lifts and botox no doubt! She should start to realise she's not 20 anymore. I'd have more respect for her if she just started dressing more classy then trying to make an impression all the time for the wrong reasons.

And how about stopping comments on how old Madonna is for a moment?! She is 50! Yes she is. How old are you all? When you will be 50 and did all of the things she achieved, looking better than most 30 year old women, then come back here and post your comment. It's so easy to judge her from your living-room.

I think she looks rather classic and overall she looks great. She looks her age but style'n. She looks pretty damn good. I only hope when I'm 50 i can pull this off. She deserves alot of credit.
