M&S wins ethical fashion award
Marks & Spencer has been crowned the UK's most animal friendly retailer, at the RSPCA Good Business Awards.
Taking the title for a fourth year in a row, the high street giant was awarded for its animal friendly policies, which include a committed campaign to ethical sourcing and a long-standing refusal to sell any fur products.
Joining M&S was newcomer to the awards, Yorkshire based Izzy Lane, which took home the tile of best small fashion retailer. The company was praised for its commitment to animal welfare, which includes founding its own sheep sanctuary.
Fashion judge Wayne Hemingway, commented, 'It is truly heartening to see that two companies – of very different scales – have taken note of the growing consumer concern for animal welfare.
'Izzy Lane shows how a passion for animals can equal a truly luxurious and cutting edge fashion label, whilst Marks & Spencer continues to prove that sustainability and sales can go hand in hand on the high street.'
David Bowles, Head of External Affairs at the RSPCA added, 'With the high street currently feeling the effect of the global credit crunch, it is really encouraging to see our winners making animal welfare an integral part of their ethical agendas and they all deserve huge praise for the progress they have made.'
