See Lily Cole pose for Playboy
By Lucy Hutchings on Thursday 2 October 2008
With a reputation for gracing glossy magazine covers and starring in very wholesome M&S campaigns, we could hardly believe it when we heard that Lily Cole had posed for French Playboy.
But the evidence is in, and wearing nothing but a pair of ankle socks and clutching an oversized teddy bear, the model stars as the latest edition's scantily-clad cover girl.
Said to be inspired by French musician Serge Gainsbourg's Melody Nelson album, Cole stars in a Sixties-inspired shoot entitled Sweet Lily. The fourteen-page editorial includes interviews with her industry colleagues and friends, including designer Jean Paul Gaultier and film director Terry Gilliam.
The shoot may seem like a bizarre move for the model, but the men's mag is a more sophisticated and artistic version that the US edition, and previous cover girls have included fashionista Lou Doillon.

Why do already successful women do these kind of shoots? Anyone else feel uncomfortable about grown women trying to look like a sexually provocative child?

I think Lily looks fantastic. Even better if the French version is more sophisticated.

Hmm, not sure what I feel about this. I've only ever thought of Lily Cole as being rather odd looking, to the point of freaking me out slightly. This cover just doesn't look right. She looks like an eight year old in the face and then you see her breasts. In fact it's almost quite manga looking, she almost looks like she's been drawn by a pre pubescent male. And her hair looks ridiculous. I would have liked to have seen her looking more mature, and not like a peadophile's fantasy.

That is never the real her!!!! She's been air brushed - I'm sure Lily is bigger than that - even her face has been altered - she has big cheeks!!!!! Fake, fake, fake!!!

Why would any woman with half a brain want to pose for playboy. I find it very worrying that grown women pose like this and who are they doing it for? So some pervert can get off on it?
These models are helping to make a dirty old man H.H rich on the degradation of women. Is that what they want to be remembered for. And while I'm at it all playboy items should be banned from stores like Smiths, Claires assesories etc. It's about time woman started to stand up to the industries trying to sneak this stuff in the back door by saying it's for adults. We are slowly being desensitised.

As we are all well aware that most magazines, photos are air brushed - I consider this is no different. She has been made to look childlike as well, which I find really creepy. It's a shame she felt she needed to go down that road.

I think what French Playboy have done is quite smart - there`s nothing remotely "sexy" about this photoshoot. It`s more of a terribly `arty`-quite clever! I think Lily`s dead cute and besides, it`s not as if she`s posed for some sleazy skin mag!

I think she looks great! I'm a huge Serge Gainsbourg fan and I got the reference right away when I saw her photo. The picture is tasteful, she's not jiggling her breasts out for all to see!
Lily may have girlish, doll-like features, but she is a 20-year-old woman. If she wants to pose for Playboy, let her pose for Playboy!
