Feminine elegance at Fashion Week
By Jo Blackaby on Wednesday 17 September 2008
London Fashion Week might be known for cutting-edge style and way-out design, however, sometimes what we really want is a stunningly beautiful dress or a gorgeously cut coat and, thankfully, in this London excels, too.
Yesterday it was the turn of London Fashion Week institutions Nicole Farhi and Aquascutum to take to the catwalk, followed later in the day by red carpet favourite Amanda Wakeley.
Turning one exquisite outfit out after another, all three demonstrated you don't need shock tactics or wacky clothes to leave a lasting impression on the front row.
However, for those who look to London for the fashion future, yesterday was also full of must-see shows, including Emma Cook, Christopher Kane and Louise Goldin, all of whom were showing at the Topshop-sponsored venue in the basement of the University of Westminster, followed by Giles who closed proceedings with a futuristic collection inspired, in part, by Pac Man.
'I'm still quite reeling, to be honest,' said model Erin O'Conner. 'It was an awful lot to take on board. It was extraordinary.'
