Trends: Day one London Fashion Week
By Jo Blackaby on Monday 15 September 2008
We might be in a different city, but New York's favourite fashion week trend - yep, you guessed it, those ubiquitous jumpsuits - came out to play yet again yesterday, on the first day of London Fashion Week.
Whether you love or loath them, it seems these fashion-forward all-in-ones are here to stay, appearing on the runways at Topshop Unique, Ossie Clark and PPQ yesterday.

However, while jumpsuits might have jumped continents, so to speak, London had plenty of new trends to offer yesterday, too.
Gone are the jewelled red carpet gowns so beloved of New York designers and in their place, 80s stone-washed denims, tongue-in-cheek quirky prints and lots of lots of pastels.
Yep, if you don't like sugar pink or candy-coloured yellow, London might not be your best shopping stop come spring/summer '09.
From the perky pink jumpsuits at Topshop and PPQ's daffodil yellow mini-dresses to the seaside resort deckchair stripes at Peter Jensen and Graeme Black, it was all about cute colour on day one of the capital's crowd-pleasing fashion week.

It's strange, I used to love the idea of jumpsuits (never worn one but that's because I always fell in love with ones far outside my price range and didn't want to compromise) but I'm rather bored by them this time around.. I genuinely don't know why though!
Rather unmoved by most of the Topshop show too.. Loved the sound of it - The inspiration: 'The faded glory of archetypal British seaside towns and the teenage rebels who roam their arcades and piers.' - but only actually got excited about a couple of items. It's very, very 80s - again oddly something I would've loved a few years ago but am not really feeling right now. Maybe just because that's not what I was expecting..
Or maybe I'm getting old. Bah humbug..?
