Hillary Clinton backs Barack Obama at Denver Convention

Hillary Clinton has delivered a rousing speech, declaring her full support for the Democratic candidate, Barack Obama.

The New York Senator and former Democratic nominee used her prime time spot at the Democratic convention in Denver to declare: 'Barack Obama is my candidate. And he must be our President.'

Mrs Clinton urged Democrats to set aside any grudges or disappointment they might hold over her own failure to be nominated and put their full weight behind Senator Obama's campaign ahead of the American elections in November.

'Whether you voted for me or voted for Barack, the time is now to unite as a single party with a single purpose,' exclaimed Hillary to a crowd of 4,000-stong Democrats.

Democratic leaders hope that Mrs Clinton's stirring words will help supporters to forget the intensely fought primary battle in which Mr Obama pipped her to the post.

Hillary's daughter, Chelsea, introduced her mother to the convention and was greeted by a long ovation which brought a tear to the Senator's eye.

She declared: 'We are on the same team and none of us can sit on the sidelines.' She continued by comparing Republican opposition candidate John McCain to President Bush saying: 'I haven't spent the past 35 years in the trenches advocating for children, campaigning for universal health care, helping parents balance work and family, and fighting for women's rights at home and around the world to see another Republican in the White House squander the promise of our country and the hopes of our people.

'And you haven't worked so hard over the last 18 months, or endured the last eight years, to suffer through more failed leadership. No way. No how. No McCain.'

Most Clinton supporters who attended the convention said following the speech that they would be voting for Mr Obama. However, some said they might support Mr McCain or stay at home.

One Washington state delegate, Anne Price-Mills commented: 'I need him to remember that there were 18 million voices that recognised the potential of that woman to lead this country and I don't think he's done that.'

Anne Price Mills has to be either have been paid or a COMPLETE idiot. Obama didn't do anything to antagonize or push away women voters. Hillary created that illusion. Now this boneheaded actress practicing for a casting despite what Hillary told her she's either going Mccain or not vote? Either one risks 4 more years of a messed up economy and the repeal of women's rights. What does someone have to do to get idiots like this to face facts. If her speech was presidential it was TOO LATE. Hillary should have started like that.
