Couture Fashion Week: Day Three
By Lucy Hutchings on Thursday 3 July 2008
Couture Fashion Week may have reached its penutimate day on Wedneday, but the bi-annual fashion extravaganza showed no sign of slowing down.
Jean Paul Gaultier ran with his love of a theme, entitling his collection 'Positively Encaging.' The title's cage was the focus, which culminated with a bride in a structured veil that could easily entrap her groom-to-be inside.
Onto Valentino, and new creative director Alessandra Facchinetti presented her first haute couture collection for the Italian fashion house.
Defying critics, Facchinetti presented a subtle, yet beautifully detailed collection, which featured clean lines and romantic touches.
She paid respect to the house's legacy, ending the show with a single gown in Valentino red.
Off schedule, and Roland Mouret showed his third RM ready-to-wear collection season amongst the giants of couture.
The label may be in only its third season, but Mouret has already developed a signature look characterised by lean shapes, sharply cut. The one-shouldered dress ruled the designer's catwalk, proving the shape is on for another season of success, firmly established as a red-carpet staple.
