Model in suicide plunge
By Carla Bevan on Monday 30 June 2008
The fashion world is in shock this morning after a 20-year-old former Vogue covergirl fell to her death from a New York apartment building.
Ruslana Korshunova was just a few days off her 21st birthday when she was found on the pavement outside her flat on Saturday afternoon.
The Kazakhstan-born star, who has modelled for Marc Jacobs and Christian Dior among other labels, apparently died on impact.
The following day, the medical examiner's office ruled the death as suicide.
'We're shocked and our heart goes out to her family,' a spokesperson for IMG modelling agency, who represented Korshunova in America, said.
Friends reacted quickly, telling reporters she'd seemed 'on top of the world' and there had been no outward signs she was suffering from depression.
However, on her blog, she painted a different picture.
One entry from earlier this year read: 'It hurts, as if someone took a part of me, tore it out, mercilessly stomped all over and threw it out. My dream is to fly. Oh, my rainbow, it is too high.'

HOW VERY SAD THIS STORY IS HOW SOMEONE CAN SEEM TO HAVE EVERYTHING, AND TO HAVE SUCH A BRIGHT FUTURE IN FRONT HER. BUT THE TOTAL OPPOSITE IS THE ACTUAL TRUTH OF HER LIFE.
MY DEEPEST SYMPATHIES GO OUT TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
