Gwyneth Paltrow heel trend

Gwyneth Paltrow at the London premiere of Iron Man

Selfridges has reported a surge in the sale of vertiginous heels after Gwyneth Paltrow strutted down the red carpet in the highest of heels for her whirlwind Iron Man publicity tour.

Gwyneth has repeatedly hit the headlines with her towering heels, thigh-skimming hemlines and new cropped locks and it seems everyone wants to get her look.

Selfridges has revealed a rush of customer interest in shoes with a staggering seven inch heel, including brands such as Balenciaga, Christian Louboutin and Yves Saint Laurent.

And now the store giant is dubbing the new trend 'the Gwyneth effect' after its sale of 'fetish' super-high heels increased by 35% in the past week alone.

Sebastian Manes, Selfridges' Director of Accessories commented: 'This season we are selling the highest and most incredible shoes I've ever seen. Not for the faint hearted, fetish heels offer the wearer an extreme, attention grabbing look, these are definitely taxi shoes!'

He added: 'Alexander Mc Queen’s Languid court shoes with a cigarette heel have been particularly popular due to their elegant timeless silhouette which contrasts beautifully with the very modern square toe.'
