Victoria Beckham wears Roland Mouret

TWO YEARS AGO, Roland Mouret's Galaxy dress was the dress of the season. A host of celebs wore it, including Cameron Diaz, Demi Moore and Sienna Miller, and it inspired multiple imitations on the high street.

Although Mouret then dropped off the fashion radar following a bitter business dispute that saw him lose his label and the right to design under his own name, he is back with a new RM line, backed by Spice Girl mogul Simon Fuller. And it appears that he has worked his magic again.

First seen on the Paris couture catwalks this year, the Moon dress has fast become a sell-out, and as waiting lists grow, Mouret again has created the dress that every woman wants.

Although the dress has a £990 price tag, Harvey Nichols sold out of its initial order in days, and now has a waiting list of 22, as does boutique Browns. When Selfridges opened an RM concession in-store, a Moon dress was the first thing to be sold, and a further five were sold within the first hour.

Amongst Moon dress fans is Victoria Beckham, who is rumoured to have bought the whole RM collection. She wore a fuchsia pink version of the skintight dress for husband David's official signing with LA Galaxy. The following day she was again in RM, this time an ivory top and grey pencil skirt for an appearance on Jay Leno.

Mouret commented: 'I think my appeal is understanding women; it is not just about designing an outfit for them.'

For aspiring Moon dress owners who can't quite justify the hefty price tag, there are many high street versions. Tesco's has one for £25, and Topshop has already sold 5,000 of its £65 homage.
