Marie Claire news: Fashion retailers under attack over sweat shop allegations

IT'S BEEN A huge phenomenon in England, and now the 'Primark effect' is set to hit the Spanish shopper with the expansion of five brand-spanking new stores.

The move comes after a successful year-long trial of a Madrid store, which saw sales sky-rocket in its relatively short existence to 81% above its targets.

Consumers are reportedly going cheap-chic crazy, and analysts have revealed there's a huge market for the retailer in Spain, which is surely the next step on its way to global domination.

Let's just hope the Spanish are a little more restrained when it comes to shop launches - nobody wants to see a repeat of the riots caused by the flagship store opening on Oxford Street.

I'm british expact living in Mallorca, and as alot of british expacts miss the shops back in England, plus spanish always up for a bargin and as primark is originally from Madrid, is there any plans to exspand into the balerics, it would be fantastic and a gold mine..

I am also a resident of Mallorca, I live in Palma and us Brits and the Spanish are desperate for Primark to open in Palma, you have no idea how annoying it is having to spend double the price on essentials like socks...Primark should really think bout opening up in Palma, I'm begging!!

There are so many british women living on the costa blanca, denia,javea,moraira etc.. and we NEED a Primark it would be so popular! we just havent got the money to spend in Zara and Mango. The shopping centres are SOOO boring, expensive and we want to feel the excitement of shopping again!!!!!!

I have lived on the Costa Del Sol for 6yrs now..and really miss the shops in th UK. Primemark being the one on top.I go up to Murcia to the Primemark but it is 6hours away.We need one down on the coast , between Marbella and Fuengirola... La Canada would be an ideal place... So come on PRIMEMARK ,,,please open one here

Hi Christine archer, your nearest primark to torrevieja is near mercia opposite ikea is a shopping precinct but you have to go in the car to it! Primark is in there! There isnt the same choice as in england with the clothes but the bags, jewellery and scarves are good! Happy shopping christine! x shirley

there are lots of brittish people in marbella la caÃ±ada is one of the most prestigious an well known places to go shopping, primark would recieve lots of custumers of all tipes as it offers cheap and good cuality items. as you may know spain is in crisis so custumers want good and cheap stuff and again primark is the most indicated. i would bye there!

please!!!! is all i have to say!! im a british woman living in mallorca and i have a two year old daughter who i have to travel back to england for every winter to stock up on clothes for her for the next year as it actually works out cheaper for me to pay the flights back to england and clothes shop for myself and my little girl than it does for me to clothes shop here in mallorca!! i would be so happy and also a frequent shopper in primark if you got one here, id travel to anywhere in mallorca to shop there!!plus im sure many other people, spanish, english, german and all nationalities would shop there too.
