Swimwear launched suitable for Muslim women

Marie Claire News: Mezal swimming costume

A NEW RANGE of swimwear for Muslim women has been launched.

The swimsuits which cover the body entirely are the creation of 30-year-old Muslim twins Rasha and Rima Mezal who were able to start up their company, Mezal, with backing from the Prince's Trust.

The sisters saw a gap in the market in Britain for women who want to cover up their bodies for religious reasons.

The entrepreneurs won a £4,000 grant to launch Mezal and the range has attracted interest from communities at home and abroad.

'There are a lot of women out there who, for religious, cultural or even medical reasons cannot show certain parts of their bodies. But there were no swimming costumes they could wear,' said Rasha.

She added: 'We decided to come up with a costume that looks fashionable yet presentable and covered.'

Rasha explained that until now women have been forced to wear all manner of garments – from long t-shirts and leggings to their robes, which cling to the body when wet.

'The overall mission of Mezal is to make it easy and convenient for women who wish to wear swimsuits that cover most of the body to be contemporary without feeling uncomfortable and out of place.'

Great idea, but the swimwear is pretty awful.. and unflattering, are they designed by fashion designers? I'm sure that with a bit more sampling you can get it right...
