The style secrets behind Madonna's toyboy shoot
For style watchers, it wasn’t the kinky shots that shocked when Madonna’s now infamous steamy W shoot first broke, but her demure choice of attire.
Known for daring to bare, the Material Girl left the flash flashing to her 22-year-old toyboy, Jesus Luz, while she buttoned up in high collared dresses and elegant shifts, including a zipped-back design by Victoria Beckham.
Speaking to W stylist Arianne Phillips, who has collaborated with Madonna for the last ten years, revealed that the Posh choice was a very conscious one, and that she was intrigued by the former Spice’s fashion endeavour.
‘I initially chose this dress for the classic 50s-60s slim silhouette, which was what I was after for our story,’ she explained.
‘I was also intrigued since it is from Beckham‘s debut collection – I liked the ‘story’ of one pop star to another. And I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality of the dress. The fabrication, details and fit are very well thought out.’
As for the secretary chic wardrobe, and she explained the inspiration behind the shoot story.
‘There was a finished, formal quality to the way women dressed in the 50s and 60s,’ she described, ‘Their outfits were complete with hat, gloves, jewelry and hosiery, and there was a modesty and femininity to the way women dressed.’
So will modesty and Stepford wife style be the latest Madonna fashion incarnation? We’re guessing only as long as she holds onto her new favourite accessory – that hot-to-trot toyboy!
