Finding the unpredictable weather a challenge wardrobe-wise? Here are 5 looks to try now...

Dressing during the changeable October weather has long been a tricky task, and never more so than right now.

Yes, the balmy weather has disappeared, leaving us a little stuck on the style front. If like us, you're struggling to adapt to the unpredictable temperates, and can't quite make your current wares work, you might want to check out our round-up of the most stylish wardrobe updates to ensure you're suitably prepared.

Floaty frocks can still look chic when worn under a chunky knit and a longline trench, just be sure to trade in your strappy sandals in favour of a chic black ankle boot.

For those grey days, we're leaning towards tan suede (be sure to steer well clear of any rain), which works perfectly over a white tee with your off-duty denim. Take your cue from Kate Bosworth, who styles her fringed version with lace-up flats, ankle-grazing jeans and some super-size sunnies.

And for those looking to amp up last season's bad weather staples (think navy jackets, khaki parka's etc), the quickest (and most affordable) way to re-work your hero buys, is with a few carefully placed new season accessories. Leandra Medine of The Man Repeller makes a strong case for the pom pom bag, while we're currently coveting retro trainers and summer's must-have (and most unexpected) accessory, the silky scarf, as worn by HRH Kate Moss.

Suede Yes it's risky, but it's just so worth it. Topshop has your suede jacket sorted. Just add Miu Miu's retro sunnies and a slick of red lipstick. When the weather gets colder, wear your new suede zip-front cover-up over a chunky summer knit.

Black flats, £175, Miu Miu sunglasses, £225, Suede jacket, £150

The Maxi Dress Think the maxi dress is a no-go for Autumn? Think again. Wear this printed blue Talitha version with some black mid-height ankle boots to complete your Folk-inspired look.

Talitha maxi dress, £854, Isabel Marant ankle boots, £585

The Trench Coat If you've not yet got a classic trench, this is the one to go for. Raey's navy long-length version is all kinds of chic, will work now and in winter, and has just hit the sale.

Raey trench coat, £347 ASOS bag, £30, See By Chloe jeans, £185

Khaki It's the fash-pack approved trend of the season, and you don't need to go down the military road to nail the look. We're taking tips from this savvy street styler and going for a chic skirt, some retro trainers and fine gold hoops to take on the trend.

Zara khaki jacket, £69.99, ASOS hoops, £8, Whistles skirt, £85, Nike trainers, £65

Summer Scarf If it's good enough for Kate Moss, it's good enough for us. Keep your look chic and team with a sleek black blazer (Zara), some ankle-grazing denim and try Balenciaga's stripe version and wear with a white shirt, or a Mossy-style stripe top.

Zara blazer, £39.99, Topshop jeans, £40, Balenciaga scarf, £295
