From one extreme to the next

Wondering what the next designer bag trend for AW18 is? Look no further than Victoria Beckham's New York Fashion Week catwalk show, where it's all about extremes.

Yup, for next season, you're either going to go big, go small or simple go home. Don't even try to think of anything in between.

And when I say big, I mean huge, as in, you can fit an actual person in it, as VB very kindly proved backstage because she's all about the LOLs.

It's not a new trend, sure (remember the Balenciaga Ikea bag and the quilted bags at Mulberry?) but it's proof that if you weren't sure about the trend last season, then now's the time to embrace it. Just think of how much you can fit in there. VB chic-ly calls hers the 'duvet shopper'.

However, if you really don't fancy it, you can down the 'powder box' bag, which is pretty much like you'd imagine. Small enough to fit your compact, lipstick, and maybe even your iPhone. Just about.

If you can't pick a camp, we'd say go for big during the day, and small in the evening.

Or go crazy and wear both.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
