Today, the Marie Claire fashion team tackle Pastels…

The Marie Claire Fashion team are trialling a different SS15 trend each day this Fashion Week. Showcasing three very different styles, Holly Welch, Abisoye Odugbesan and Hannah Lewis will be giving us a lesson in how to translate the trends, and make them wearable every day.

Trend 2: Pastels

Holly Welch, Junior Fashion Editor

'I am not really a girly girl, so this trend had me feeling a little bit tense. The only way I thought I would wear pastels would be in the form of a summer dress or some pastel denim shorts on a beach, pina colada in hand, but no, it's freezing cold and it's LFW. So how do I make pastels less pretty and more me? Team them with a military-esque jacket, of couse! This cropped boxy number is from Atterley Road – add some slouchy patched-up MiH jeans, midnight black Nike trainers from Office, et voila! The humble pastel can be tomboy-playful, not just girly-sweet. I might just be tempted to try this again.'Hannah Lewis, Fashion Assistant 'I am channelling Marc Jacobs pyjama-style circa 2013, a trend I was OBSESSED with. My twist this season? By making sure they're pastel. Usually I'd go for prints, but today I am wearing these gorgeous pale blue striped ones from H&M. I love the black piping down the side, which makes them look a bit smarter. I have styled them with a heavy biker jacket from BLK Denim to toughen it up and steer it away from looking too floaty. Tonight we're going to the Browns party, I happen to have a pair of Gianvito Rossi mega-black strappy sandals in my bag, which will work a treat once I've rolled the legs up a bit to flash a bit of skin.'

Abisoye Odugbesan, Senior Fashion Assistant 'My take on pastels is grown-up and masculine. I like clothes with strong lines and bold shapes, and this sky-blue sweater from J Brand does wonders to enhance them. I think my COS coat has the perfect partnership and underlines my signature style while wearing this trend. I have kept my colour palette totally blue by finishing this outfit with navy culottes from Zara. Pastels would be easier to pull off in the heat as we get closer to spring, but here is our way to make them winter wearable if, like me, you would NOT be seen dead in pretty-pink perfect.'

Check in tomorrow to see how we tackle Trend 3, FLORALS.
