Jewellery Trend: The 'Statement' Necklace Is Back

Say it with jewellery. No, really.

Say it with jewellery. No, really.

When Cheryl Fernandez-Versini left London’s Salmontini restaurant last night, holding hands with new boyfriend Liam Payne, she wanted everyone to see that it’s love.

How do we know? Because she said it with fashion, duh. It’s written right there on her chest, in all its gilded Lanvin glory.

Yup, the slogan necklace is officially back and is the new favourite jewellery trend in celebrity land. When they’ve got something to say, our favourite A-listers aren’t composing Twitter poetry, or posting an Insta-essay. They’re expressing their thoughts through the medium of fabulous designer wares. Carrie Bradshaw would be proud.

Across the pond, Kim Kardashian-West was also spotted trialling the look. She too, worked an anonymous, all-black ensemble - but with one chunky diamond ‘Saint’ choker to catch the eye, hopefully without bedazzling her new baby son in the process.

Never have we been so encouraged to make literal statements with fashion. From Vetement’s sooo direct slogan tees, to Gucci’s ‘real’ graffiti bags, the AW16 shows, too, were full of not so hidden messages.

So what are you saying for SS16? Here are four of our favourite statement necklaces to shop right now, including an exact match on Cheryl’s…

Lanvin, Love necklace, £380

Tatty Devine, Not In Service necklace, £20

Mawi, Diamonds charm chain, £433

Saint Laurent, Love necklace, £440
